Atrazine Removal From Water

Atrazine desisopropyl and atrazine desethyl are commonly used herbicides, belonging to the class of triazines and priority substances under the UK Water Framework Directive (WFD). Atrazine has not had approval for EU use since 2004 over groundwater contamination fears. Atrazine desisopropyl is so persistent, it is still being found in groundwater sourced despite being banned. Fluazifop-Butyl Removal From Water

Lindane is an agricultural insecticide which has been banned under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants since 2009. Acesulfame k is a sugar substitute known as E950 in the EU. Sweeteners like this are common pollutants in water from food and drink processing. Chemical sweeteners pollute water through their addition to consumable products, the facilities are then washed down and the chemicals are directed to the drain, resulting in environmental contamination. We have treated acesulfame k down from 0.31 µg/L to 0.07 µg/L.

Aspartame Removal From Water

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener used as a sugar substitute. This is a very popular sweetener and can cause water contamination when it is found in effluent from food and beverage manufacturing facilities. Aspartame in particular has been linked to cancer, depression, and ADHD when this substance is overconsumed. We have achieved a 99.9% reduction in aspartame.

What are the causes of water pollution?

Water pollution occurs when clean water is used and contaminated with different substances which affect the quality parameters of the water. This occurs during industrial manufacturing, agricultural activities, mining, domestic usage, landfill leachate and intensive farming.

Dirty water from industrial facilities is known as effluent and contains various types of contamination which causes environmental pollution when this is not adequately treated.

Types of water pollution

Types of pollution can be categorised by their intended use; for example, pharmaceuticals, personal care products (pcp), agrochemicals, industrial cleaners and other harmful chemicals.

Effects of water pollution

Pollutants cause untold damage to aquatic ecosystems, to the point where to this day, we still do not fully understand the extent in some cases. Research is ongoing in relation to chemicals and pharmaceuticals in drinking water, antibiotics in water and pesticides in water supply and how they impact both humans and wildlife.The reality is, we are inadvertently consuming traces of pollutants in water every single day and types of chemicals such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can cause lasting damage to the hormonal system, such as cancer and infertility. Polluted water containing pharmaceutical residues is causing antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when genetic changes take place in microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. This can render medications against various infections ineffective.
