Why be Carbon Neutral?

Achieving Carbon Neutral company certification means that we are taking our climate responsibilities seriously by working to minimise our carbon footprint, which has an immediate, positive impact on the climate. Our technology enables our clients to remove environmentally harmful chemicals from water, while avoiding the need for chemical dosing and the resulting toxic sludge this process produces. This practice allows us to help our clients reduce the incineration requirements of their business, thus helping to prevent further harmful emissions.

With all this in mind, it seemed a natural progression to work towards being completely carbon neutral.

How did we get Carbon Neutral Company Certification?

Working with Carbon Neutral Britain, it was a three step process:

1. Measure and disclose our carbon emissions

Carbon Neutral Britain™ is one of the UK’s leading carbon offsetting providers and offer industry leading Independent Project Validation and Assurance for each project supported via their Carbon Offsetting portfolios. They helped us to calculate and verify our carbon footprint based of the activities that occur in and around our office.

3. Finance emissions reductions

After measuring and verifying our carbon footprint, as well as reducing internal emissions as much as possible, in order to achieve Carbon Neutral company certification next, we began compensating for unavoidable emissions by delivering finance to low-carbon sustainable development projects.

This is where we realised how important it was to have a climate partner of integrity. We read many stories about ‘greenwashing’ where companies think they are paying for trees to be planted, only to find the saplings had not been cared for with watering and protecting from wildlife, so they failed.

It was important to us to choose a partner who had integrity and showed evidence of real projects, which is what led us to work with Carbon Neutral Britain.

After verified measurement and internal emissions reductions, an independent assessment resulted in Arvia offsetting 167.67 tonnes of carbon emissions through a global renewable energy portfolio.

Our carbon offsetting program

Through Climate Impact Partners we are providing finance to a global renewable energy portfolio in order to offset our unavoidable carbon emissions.

This portfolio is made up of projects which helps to prevent more carbon from ever entering the atmosphere (carbon avoidance project). Carbon avoidance projects can include the development of technologies that rely on clean energy sources rather than fossil fuels.

We felt this portfolio was most relevant to Arvia, because it exactly matches our mission of helping clients to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals and greenhouse gas emissions entering the environment through the adoption of new technologies.
